Last Post & Reflection!!!!

WOW! I cannot believe this class is basically over now! Where did the 8 weeks go?


This is my last class ever! It is kind of bittersweet, but I am ready to start my career! Even though this class was online and went quick, I really enjoyed it. It was different than some classes because we had time to work on our assignments during our meeting class. (Thank you Dr. Steffes!) I also liked blogging. No other class had students blog, but I did like how we only had a group of other people to respond to. 

Being that this class was about teaching language arts, it helped refresh some things I had learned in my previous classes. There were several familiar material. but also things that I was not familiar such as some engagement techniques. It will be handy to have these down to try new activities with my future students. 

Language arts is a lot of material to teach but with the help of student teaching and planning unit lessons, I learned that you can tie in many parts of language arts into a lesson. I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but I enjoy teaching this subject, especially reading.

    Congratulations to you! This class and the one I am in on Tuesdays are my last two! Just have to focus on student teaching now! I am excited and nervous at the same time! I hope can get through the MOPTA I am nervous about that the most. For the rest of summer I will be getting ready for student teaching and hopefully getting family time and swim time. Enjoy teaching you will be a wonderful teacher!!

      Thank you! You are so close to the finish line! Try not to stress about MoPTA so much, you will be do fine. Like I mentioned before, just do not wait until last minute because it is time consuming.

      Thank you for your advice so much!!! I plan to work on it for a week every night and weekend and hopefully that'll be enough time to get it finished each time. I will probably end up working on it more lol.

    Congratulations! How awesome to be done and ready to walk in a classroom to teach! I still have a ways to go but that it okay. I also enjoyed blogging over the traditional discussion and answer format. It was nice to know who you were to respond to and not have to read so many discussions. I have enjoyed this class and have learned a great deal. Good luck in the future!

    You are so lucky this is your last class! I have about 4 more after this math class I am taking next. Then I student teach in the Spring and I can't wait!!!! I have one more class this summer (math that I mentioned) but it is just one class and that will give me time to play with my toddler the remaining time. :) Congrats on being done and best wishes!

My unit is over reading and narrative writing including imagery and figurative language. I did use one specific trade book throughout my whole unit but there are others I could use too. 1. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen- This is the book that is the main example of narrative stories and the use of imagery and figurative languages.  2.  Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume- This book could be use by reading a few pages and asking students what point of view this book was written. Word Walls

Word Walls. I think Word Walls add on to the classroom especially in an elementary school setting. From Kindergarten where they start learning how to spell words.....  (Pinterest.com) (firstgradenest.com) To even high school where a teacher teaches a certain subject only.   (pinterest.com) Words walls are useful for all ages. It is available information for students to use. Word walls are there to increase students' vocabulary throughout the school year. Once I get my own classroom, I do plan on using word walls. I have seen my cooperative teachers use creative kinds of walls and it seemed that students enjoyed them. Word walls can also help students with their spelling because the vocabulary on the wall are typically the words they will use in everyday basis.  I also think it would be helpful in reading. Week 4

This week we had class differently, but I learned more about vocabulary and language in general. From chapters 4 and 5, the stages of spelling was explained. I had previously touched a little bit about the stages in another education class, but I am glad to be reminded of the four stages: Precommunicative, prephonetic, phonetic, transitional, and conventional. I think in my experiences I have seen each stage from working at a daycare to working with elementary students. When I was younger, my mother kept several of my writings and school projects and I remember looking through them and seeing my spelling improve throughout the years.
